Finally cracked why my character intros kept flopping

After 6 months of posting prompts on this sub, I noticed everyone, including me, was starting with action but zero stakes... like 'she walked into the bar' instead of 'she owed the bar $400 and only had $12'. When I switched to putting a debt or a deadline in the first line, the responses doubled pretty fast. Has anyone else found that a concrete number or place name in the opening hook pulls more writers in than vague mood-setting?
