Vent: everyone says trust the chart, but it was a hand signal that saved my Tuesday
Everybody at our shop swears the load chart is the only thing worth trusting, but last Tuesday on the I-35 job in Round Rock the chart was what almost got me. I had an 11k pick on a roof truss with a 62 foot radius, pressure was fine on paper, and I started booming up because the numbers said I could. My spotter waved me off with two fingers flat and palm down, old signal from way back, and I stopped about 8 inches short. Turned out the outrigger pad was sitting on a soft spot in the gravel and it started sinking as soon as I loaded up. Anyone else still run hand signals when the radio guy is new?
