The old foreman at the Port of Oakland who told me to always bump the horn twice before swinging
Back in 2011 an old foreman at the Port of Oakland gave me one piece of advice on my first week. He said bump the horn twice, pause, then swing, no matter how clear the deck looks. I figured it was old timer stuff and skipped the pause on a container lift about a month later. A rigger had walked under the load to grab a tag line and I missed him by maybe 3 feet. I do the double bump and full pause every single swing now, even when the deck is empty, because that guy knew what he was talking about. Any of you still do the pause or have you dropped it for radios and near field sensors?
