Skeptical about AI takeoff software, now I'm eating my words
My crew chief kept pushing this AI estimating tool for months and I figured it was just another gimmick. Last week we had a 12-unit apartment complex bid due in 48 hours and I had two guys out sick, so I finally let him run it. The thing pulled measurements from our PDF plans and generated a material list in about 20 minutes, which normally takes us a solid day. It flagged a discrepancy in the roof pitch that would've cost us around $3,500 if we'd underbid. I'm still not letting it drive the whole truck, but I've used it on three bids since and the numbers are scary close to what we manually calculate. Has anyone else had a software tool surprise them like that, or am I just late to the party?

Buddy of mine in plumbing swore his estimating software caught a pipe size error that saved him a whole bathroom redo.
