The GPS said 20 minutes, took me an hour 40 in downtown traffic

I needed to get from my dentist in Silver Spring to a client site near the Navy Yard last Tuesday. Left at 8:30 am thinking the GPS estimate was fine, but every light on Rhode Island Ave felt like it was timed against me. Turns out a truck had flipped on the 695 connector and the maps app kept rerouting me into side streets that were blocked. Has anyone else noticed that the ETA never updates for the first 10 minutes, or is that just my bad luck?

The GPS delay thing is real. I sat in stop and go on 270 for a solid 25 minutes one morning and the ETA barely moved the whole time. Then suddenly it jumped from 40 minutes to an hour and a half all at once. By the time it caught up, the damage was done. I missed half a meeting over it. That stretch near Silver Spring is a mess on its own. Every road there feeds into another road that's backed up for no reason. I drive through there a few times a month for work and I've learned to just add 45 minutes to whatever the app says. Park in the shade, bring a book, that sort of thing.
