Showerthought: That burned out control panel at Denver Airport made me rethink hotel electronics
Stayed at a hotel near Denver International last month and the TV remote control panel in the room was literally melted on one side. Front desk said it was from a faulty USB port that overheated overnight. Now I unplug everything before I leave the room, even the lamps. Has anyone else seen fried electronics in their hotel stays?

Oh wow, that's terrifying. I actually read an article about how those USB ports in hotel rooms are often really cheaply made and can short out. The article said a lot of them aren't even UL certified or whatever, which means they didn't pass safety tests. Makes me want to bring my own charging block from now on and just stick to the wall outlets.

Three people in my extended family had their phones fried by those hotel USB ports last year, @susanh46. Two of them were on a work trip and both devices died overnight, wouldn't even turn on the next morning. Makes total sense they're not safety tested, I'm just surprised more hotels haven't been sued over it yet.
