My old coworker called my theory rabbit holes lazy thinking, so I changed my whole research method

A guy I used to work with at the leasing office in Austin told me I was just stacking confirmation bias and calling it investigation. He made me write down every claim I believed and then list three sources that flat out disagreed with it. After 2 weeks of doing that on the JFK timeline threads, I realized I was skipping the messy stuff on purpose because it was easier to keep one story straight. Now I read the opposing side first before I even touch the fun forums. Anyone else got a method that forces you to look at the weak spots before you build your case?

Did you keep that list of disagreements, or did you toss it after the two weeks? I do something similar with any rabbit hole I get into, but I save the counter points in a file. If the story can't hold up to the worst version of the opposition, it's not a story worth telling.
