Changed my mind on that $150 magnesium float

I always thought a magnesium float was just a fancy version of a wood float and not worth the cash. My old crew chief kept telling me to get one for flatwork, but I brushed it off for years. Then I had a big garage floor pour in July, the mix was a bit hot and setting up fast. I borrowed his mag float in a pinch. The difference was night and day. It closed the surface so much smoother than my wood one and didn't drag or tear the cream. I bought my own the next week. It just gives you more control on that final pass before the steel trowel. Has anyone else had a tool they avoided that turned out to be a game changer?

That "night and day" thing is spot on. I read a forum post once where a guy said his mag float saved a whole slab from getting all pitted.

Yeah that "night and day" difference is real lol. I felt the same way about my margin trowel, thought it was pointless until I had to clean out a tight corner.
