A finisher in Lubbock bet me $50 that wetting the subgrade first was pointless. I lost.
I have been finishing slabs for 11 years and always figured a dry subgrade was fine if you dumped fast. Last month a guy named Ray on a 4,000 sq ft warehouse pour in Lubbock told me to hose down the base before we placed, and I honestly laughed at him. He bet me $50, so I wet half the slab and left the other half dry. The dry side crusted up on me while I was still bull floating, and the wet side gave me an extra 20 minutes of working time I really needed that day. Ray got his $50 and now I keep a hose on the truck. Does anyone else hose down the base in Texas heat, or am I just late to this?
