That $50 variant cover I bought on a whim is now worth maybe $5
I picked up a virgin variant cover of Batman #125 at my local shop, Big Bang Comics in Austin, thinking it would go up in value. Turns out the print run was huge and everyone and their brother bought one (myself included). I basically threw away fifty bucks on a book I don't even like the art of. Has anyone else gotten burned on a variant that seemed like a sure thing but flopped?

Man, did I used to be the guy sniffing my own farts over variants? I was all in on the "flip it fast" train for a while. But after getting stuck with a few of those big print run books like you described, I totally changed my tune. It's crazy how the market can just flood overnight, and suddenly your "investment" is just a pretty piece of cardboard nobody wants. Honestly, it made me realize the only variant worth buying is one you actually want to hang on your wall, no matter what the price tag says later.

Haha preach man, I still have a stack of those "hot" variants sitting in a box somewhere that I'm too embarrassed to even look at. But hey, at least my wall is full of books I actually love now, even if my wallet hates me for it.
