PSA: Your 'First Appearance' comic might not actually be the first

I was at a local con in Austin last Saturday and a dealer told me my 1992 X-Men #1 wasn't worth what I thought. He pulled up a copy of X-Men #4 from 1964 and showed me that the first appearance of the Blob is actually in that older issue. I always assumed the cover story counted, but the interiors tell the real story. Anyone else get burned by trusting the sticker on the bag instead of checking the issue details?

Man, that dealer probably saw me coming from a mile away... I once bought a "first appearance" of Gambit only to realize later it was like his fifth appearance in a backup story. The sticker on the bag just said "1st app" and I trusted it like a fool. Now I double check everything online before I even pull out my wallet.
