My mentor's 10 minute rule actually broke my debug habit
My old team lead in Austin told me to walk away after 10 minutes of staring at code, and I thought it was lazy advice until last Tuesday when I spent 3 hours stuck on a null pointer that a coffee break would've caught. The break let my brain see that I was passing the wrong variable into a helper function, and the fix took 2 lines. Anyone else have advice that sounded dumb at first but turned out to be the most useful thing?

That "wrong variable" part is the real kicker, most people think walking away means taking a nap but it's really about letting your brain sort the noise from the signal.
