My buddy watched me code for 10 minutes and asked why I retype every variable name instead of copy paste
I always thought copy paste was sloppy so I typed everything by hand until he pointed out I was making typos in long names like customerEmailAddress at least 5 times a session. Now I copy the first one and paste the rest, and my error count dropped way down in my little Python budget script. What dumb habit did someone have to point out to you before it clicked?
My version of that was camelCase in a little inventory tracker I built for my apartment complex, where residentNotes and maintenanceRequestDate were getting butchered on a daily basis. I had this weird pride about typing every single character by hand, like copy paste was cheating somehow. After my third typo broke a whole loop and cost me like 45 minutes of debugging, I finally started copying the long ones and just changing the last word. Something like 90 percent of my dumb errors came from long names, so that one change cleaned things up fast. Still type short stuff by hand though, old habits die hard.
