Talked to an old timer about creosote and now I check my angles differently

Met a retired sweep named Hal at a diner outside Pittsburgh last Thursday. He said most folks worry about the wrong thing, they obsess over the creosote amount but never think about the flue angle. He told me a 1/8 inch tilt can hide a whole layer of buildup that a straight brush will never touch. So I drove back to a job I did in March and rechecked it with my level. Found a spot near the smoke shelf I completely missed. Felt dumb but also grateful. Any of you ever adjust your routine after talking to an older hand in the trade? What did they point out that you never considered?
