Washing herbs with dish soap was my mistake for 5 years
I used to rinse basil and cilantro under cold water and call it clean. Last month a line cook at a place I was eating at in Portland told me I was just spreading dirt around. He showed me a quick soak in a bowl of water with a splash of white vinegar, then a rinse. Took me 20 seconds and the grit settled at the bottom. Have any of you found a better way to get sand out of leeks or Swiss chard without scrubbing each leaf?
