My buddy's place just got fined over reused fryer oil.
I mean, his manager kept using the same oil for way too long to save a few bucks. It started smoking bad during a busy night and triggered the fire alarms, which called in a surprise check. Now they have a huge fine and are dealing with a hit to their reputation. Maybe it's just me, but skimping on basics like that can backfire fast, idk.

Skimping on basics backfiring is so true. Saw this at a diner I worked at. Owner would water down the cleaner to make it last longer. Health inspector caught it during a random visit. Got a big fine and lost regular customers who heard about it. Never worth cutting corners like that.

My friend's bakery tried using cheap, off-brand flour to save a few bucks. The bread came out dense and gummy, totally different. They lost their whole morning coffee crowd in like a week because the pastries just weren't right anymore.
