Thermal paste on a budget, the $6 tube beat the $25 one

Tbh I always figured expensive thermal paste had to be better, but last month I rebuilt an old gaming rig on a tight budget. I grabbed a $6 tube of generic paste from a local electronics store in Austin and compared it to the $25 Arctic stuff I had leftover. After a week of gaming, the temps were within 2 degrees Celsius, so the cheap tube won for me. Has anyone else tried mixing budget paste with a used CPU cooler and seen similar results?
