That 'just use toothpaste' screen fix advice nearly killed my old monitor
That 'just use toothpaste' screen fix advice nearly killed my old monitor. About 3 weeks ago, a guy in a Facebook group swore toothpaste and a soft cloth would buff out deep scratches on my 2012 Dell monitor. I tried it on a small spot in the corner first, and it looked okay for like an hour. Then the whole area went cloudy and hazy, and now that part of the screen is permanently smeared even after cleaning it with alcohol. He said it worked for his phone screen, but LCD panels have a softer coating that scratches way easier. I ended up finding a used bezel with a good panel on eBay for $35, which was still cheaper than a repair shop but way more than the $2 toothpaste. Anyone else been burned by a 'kitchen cabinet' fix that worked on one gadget but wrecked another?
