That foreman's stretcher advice was backwards for my job

Back in March I had this old foreman tell me to always angle the power stretcher toward the wall, no matter what. I trusted him on a big living room in Cleveland and ended up with a ripple near the doorway that took me two hours to fix. Turns out the padding was too thin and the subfloor dipped, so angling it made everything worse. I finally went back to pulling straight and it laid out perfect. Has anyone else had a "pro tip" fail because the floor just didn't cooperate?
