Stopped by a carpet showroom in Phoenix yesterday and noticed something weird

I was picking up some materials near 35th ave and saw this high end showroom that had all their samples just piled on the floor. Not rolled up or on racks, just stacked flat. I asked the guy and he said they've been doing it that way for years because customers like to grab and go. Has anyone else seen stores doing this or am I the only one who thinks it's gonna wreck the backing?

Are you kidding me?! They just let people grab rolls off the floor like it's a garage sale? @kim.sandra is spot on, that manager is gonna be processing returns every single day for messed up backings.
