Chose between restretching the old carpet or full replacement in a rental, and the cheap fix bit me
I had a rental unit in Sacramento where the carpet in the main bedroom was rippled so bad you could trip on it. My options were to pay $250 to have it restretched or drop $1,100 on new carpet for that room. I went with the restretch because the carpet itself was only 6 years old and still had decent pile. The crew came out and pulled it tight, looked great for about 2 months. Then the same wrinkles came back in the same spots because the pad had broken down underneath. I ended up paying for the restretch and then paying for new carpet anyway. Next time I will just check the pad first before deciding. Has anyone else had a restretch fail on them like that?
