Serious question, my stored Camry looked rough after 5 months in a buddy's barn

I parked my 2011 Camry in my buddy's barn up near Athens last November and pulled it out in April. The paint went from clean to dull with this chalky white haze all over the roof and hood. The barn had a leaky roof and no airflow, so moisture just sat on it for months. I waxed it before storing it too, which is the part that bugs me. What do you all do to keep damp air off a car in a shed that isn't sealed?
