I was parking my project car on dirt for 2 years until my neighbor pointed at the tarp
I always figured a cheap blue tarp over my 1986 Camaro was good enough, so it sat on bare dirt behind my garage in Fresno since 2022. Last month my neighbor Ray walked over while I was pulling the cover off and just pointed at the ground under the car. The frame rails had rust bubbles and the rear leaf springs were flaking, all because the tarp trapped moisture against the dirt and never let anything breathe. He let me park it on the concrete pad next to his shop for a week while I scrubbed everything down with a wire brush and rust converter. I bought six 2x10 planks and a $40 gravel load from the yard down the street, and now the car sits on a raised pad with a breathable cover instead of that tarp. Pulled the tarp off last week and the underside is finally dry. Anybody else run into moisture problems parking on bare ground even with a cover on?
