Overheard a guy at the parts counter say WD-40 is for amateurs, now I get it
Stopped by my usual supplier in Portland yesterday to grab a shutter blade set. Old timer in front of me was complaining about a sticky aperture on some vintage lens, and the counter guy just goes, "WD-40 is for amateurs, you need to flush it with lighter fluid and relube with watch oil." I always used WD-40 for everything, figured if it unsticks, good enough. But this guy had a point about residue. I tried the lighter fluid trick on a stuck helicoid last night, and the difference is night and day. Smooth as silk now. Has anyone else made the switch away from WD-40 on delicate gear, or am I the last one learning this?
