Heard a customer say 'just replace the whole lens' and I had to walk away

Some guy at the counter yesterday was mad about a $60 repair quote and said his phone camera does the same job anyway. I mean, do people even think about cleaning contacts or checking the aperture blades before they call a body dead? Has anyone else had to bite their tongue when someone treats film gear like disposable tech?

The "phone camera does the same job" line gets me every time... phones are great for quick shots but they don't have the same feel or control. That $60 quote probably covered hours of careful work, not just swapping a part out. People forget that film gear is built to be fixed, not thrown away, and that's kind of the whole point of owning it.
