Had to choose between a $200 ultrasonic cleaner or a $40 manual watch cleaning kit for a stuck shutter mechanism. Went with the manual kit and it worked, but took 4 hours.

My buddy Mark tried to fix an old film camera with a jammed advance lever. He spent a whole Saturday with a tiny screwdriver and some lighter fluid, taking the whole top plate apart. Honestly, his hands were cramping up by the end, and he had springs laid out on a towel so he wouldn't lose them. Tbh it worked, but he said he felt like he aged five years in one afternoon.
