Deciding between ultrasonic cleaning and a full teardown on a foggy 50mm Summicron

Picked the ultrasonic bath because the haze looked like surface film, but it came back worse with etched coating damage. Has anyone saved a lens like this with a gentler method, or is a CLA the only safe move once the glass is open?
