Spent 8 years stripping coax wrong, a rookie called it out

I always used my diagonal cutters to nick the jacket and peel it back with my fingers, thought that was normal. This 19 year old kid on my crew in Dayton asks why I don't use a compression tool stripper, and now I feel like an idiot for every hand-cut connection I've made since 2016. Anyone else learn a basic move late in their career?

Wait, isn't the compression stripper just for the outer jacket though? You still gotta hand nick the foil and dielectric, or use a different step on it right? Not arguing, just double checking cause I got handed one last year and I'm pretty sure I still cut the copper braid by hand after.
