I tried pocket holes vs mortise and tenon on a face frame and the difference was crazy
I built two identical cabinet face frames last month for a kitchen reno in Austin. One I did with pocket screws on my Kreg jig, the other I cut actual mortise and tenon joints by hand. The pocket hole frame went together in like 45 minutes, looked fine at first. The M&T took me about 4 hours across two evenings. But when I clamped them both up and checked with my square, the M&T frame was dead flat and the pocket hole one had a slight twist in the middle rail. I installed both and the pocket hole frame actually pulled apart at a joint after three days of humidity changes. The M&T one is still rock solid. Has anyone else switched back to traditional joinery for face frames after using pocket holes for a while?
