A cobbler in Portland looked at my 8 year old boots and asked why I was killing them with polish
I had been slathering my Red Wing 875s with mink oil every 6 weeks for almost 3 years thinking I was doing them a favor. He said the oil was softening the leather so much it was stretching out and the stitching was pulling, and told me to condition maybe twice a year and just brush them after wear. Now I'm wondering how many other things I'm "taking care of" that I'm actually ruining, what's something you were doing wrong for years before someone set you straight?
