Update: my $3 shower pan patch held water for a week, then came through the neighbor's ceiling in Modesto
If you're patching a cracked pan with silicone caulk instead of a real pan liner, that water sits under the floor for weeks before it shows up downstairs, and by then you're paying for drywall, insulation, and a new ceiling, so has anyone here actually had a caulk patch hold longer than a month or is that just something we all tell ourselves?
water sits under the floor for weeks before it shows up downstairs" is basically how everything works now, right? The cheap fix never fails right away, it fails on a delay, so you think you got away with it. Same deal with flex seal on a roof, ramen noodles on a bumper, or duct tape on a radiator hose. The bill always shows up later, just with interest. A month of holding is not a fix, that's a countdown.
