Switching to a tiny monthly spread after 3 years of dailies

I kept a full daily log since 2021, but last month in Portland I had to choose between that or a single monthly page for work travel. I picked the monthly grid with just 3 keywords per day, and honestly it freed up so much time. The catch is I miss the space for random notes, so I added a quick brain dump column on the side. Has anyone else downshifted their layout and then missed something specific about their old system?

Ditch the dailies for a tiny grid and suddenly you're the minimalist everyone aspires to be, until you realize your brain still runs on 800 words a day. I tried that once after a decade of massive entries, and my side column turned into a full-on second notebook that legally should have its own ISBN. The real kicker is you trade time for this weird itch, like forgetting a pet at home, except the pet is your own random thoughts. Stick with the keywords, but give that brain dump its own hour or you'll end up writing haikus in your margins just to cope.
