Built my last three PCs with the PSU fan facing down before someone pointed out my carpet was choking it

Took a friend looking at my rig and saying 'dude your PSU is trying to breathe through a shag rug' for me to realize I'd been suffocating my power supply for years. Anyone else ever facepalm over something this obvious hours into a build?

Hmm, I actually keep mine fan down on hardwood and it's fine. Carpet's a whole different issue though. You checked if the case has enough clearance underneath for airflow?

Used to think fan up was always better for some reason, maybe just saw it in builds online and went with it. But your point about hardwood vs carpet makes a lot of sense, never really thought about how much that changes things. I actually checked my case feet after reading this, they're only like half an inch tall so airflow underneath is basically nothing on carpet. Probably been choking my intake this whole time. Gonna flip it around and see if temps drop. Feels dumb I didn't think about this sooner, but hey, that's how you learn I guess.
