Two weeks ago I swore by heat shrink, now I'm team electrical tape
Caught up with an old electrician buddy at a cookout in Dayton and he told me heat shrink hides the break point so you never actually fix the strain. He showed me how he tapes every cable with a half-lap spiral, and after I tried it on my work laptop charger that kept dying at 3 AM, it's held up for 8 shifts now. Anyone else find that the fix you trust least ends up lasting longest?

Did your buddy explain why tape beats shrink for the long haul? Mine was a plumber who wrapped his van's backup camera wire in tape after heat shrink failed twice, and that thing outlasted the van itself. Tried the same half-lap thing on my headphone cable and it's been going strong for months.
