Thought a 90 degree adapter would save my GPU port, it just moved the break point

Moved my desk 6 inches to fit a new monitor and the adapter snapped clean off inside the card after 3 days. Now I'm out $35 and still fishing plastic out of a $700 port, so what actually works for tight clearance setups?
