Vent: my $9 harbor freight clamps beat the name brand ones on my cabinet build
So I built a small shop cabinet out of scrap plywood in my garage in Akron over the weekend, and I grabbed two kinds of clamps for the glue up: a pair of the cheap orange bar clamps from Harbor Freight at $9 each, and two of the fancy name brand ones I got as a gift a while back. I figured the pricey ones would hold better, but man, it was the opposite. The cheap ones kept the joint tight with no slipping, and the name brand ones bowed the wood a little and one of them kept sliding off the edge. I checked the joint after 24 hours and the cheap ones held dead straight. I'm not saying cheap tools win all the time, but for a broke setup like mine, this one surprised me. My guess is the bars on the cheap ones are thicker, your mileage may vary on a bigger glue up. Anyone else find a budget tool that just plain works better than the expensive one for you?
