PSA: hose clamps and a bike tube fixed my intake leak for under $5
My old 1998 Civic was idling rough and throwing a lean code last month, and the shop wanted $140 just to look at it. I used to buy a whole new intake tube every time, which ran me $60 or more, and it never really fit right anyway. Now I pull the tube, wrap the cracked section with a strip cut from an old bike tube, and crank a hose clamp over it. It held pressure when I sprayed soapy water on it, and the rough idle went away the same afternoon. The bike tube was free from my neighbor's junk pile. How do you all patch cracked plastic pipes when a new one costs too much?
