My uncle said he ran his whole shop off one $40 part for 12 years and it made me rethink my setup
I was helping my uncle clean out his garage over in Gary, Indiana and he showed me how he wired his table saw and shop vac together using a single outlet strip he got from a bin store for $6. He said he ran that same strip every day for 12 years without a single problem. That hit different because I've been buying fancy power strips online for $35 a piece and replacing them about every 8 months. I counted up what I spent over the past 3 years and it came to $140 on strips alone. He looked at me and said "you're paying for the plastic shell, not the copper." Now I'm wondering if I've been overcomplicating my whole bench setup. Anyone else got a cheap part that just refuses to quit on them?
12 years on a $6 strip from a bin store is wild. I've had strips die just from plugging in a shop vac, the switch pops or the breaker trips and that's it. How many amps was he pulling through that thing anyway? Running a table saw and a vac at the same time seems like it would melt a cheap strip. Maybe they built them different back then.
