I was reorganizing my living room last weekend because my coleus was getting leggy and I needed to move it closer to the east window. While I was shifting pots around, I decided to actually count everything I own. Turns out I hit 50 houseplants without even noticing, and that felt wild to me because I still remember buying my first pothos at a flea market in Portland back in 2021 for like $4. It started with that one cutting and now I have three shelves, a hanging rack in the kitchen, and a weird corner in the bathroom that's basically a fern jungle. The real surprise was that 14 of them are propagating right now in water jars, so the number is only going up. I can't even name half of them without checking my notes app, which feels a little embarrassing for someone who posts here. Has anyone else had their collection sneak up on them like this, or am I just the only one who loses track of the count? What's your current number and how did you finally realize you needed to stop? I mean, not that I'm stopping, but I'm just curious where the line is for other people.
Tbh, I hit 60 last month and only realized when my bathroom mirror became a plant shelf and I couldn't see my own face anymore. At this point I'm just waiting for a leaf to tap me on the shoulder and ask for rent.
