Hot take: being a medical coder sounds like watching paint dry but I cleared $71k my first full year
I got certified through a 6 month online program at my kitchen table in Boise after my retail job cut my hours to 12 a week. The work itself is honestly like solving the same small puzzle over and over, you read charts and pick the right codes, and nobody at a party ever wants to hear about it. It took me 4 months of applying before I landed my first remote gig at a small clinic, mostly because everyone wants 2 years of experience you can't get without experience. Now I work in sweatpants, pick my own hours, and the only drama is when a provider forgets to document something. Anyone else in here doing some version of this and did you go hospital side or stay with a smaller practice?
