Accidentally sliced a gathered section with a bone folder yesterday

Was working on a rebound of an old mystery novel. Got distracted by my cat jumping on the table. Folded right through the first signature. Ruined 4 pages. Anyone else have a brain fart moment that cost them a whole section?

Are you really gonna scrap a whole signature over 4 ruined pages? That seems like a lot of waste for something that'll probably just get smudged or dogeared down the road anyway. I'd just trim the damaged bits and call it character. If this was some rare first edition maybe I'd get it, but for a rebound of an old mystery novel it feels like overkill.

Man, I've been there, just snip those pages clean and call it a day if the binding's solid.
