Warning: I called the 'read it twice' rule nonsense for years until our club picked a book I hated the first time
Six months ago our club in Dayton picked a book with a slow first hundred pages and I rated it 2 stars and said so out loud. A retired teacher named Marlene pushed back and asked me to read chapters 12 through 15 again before the next meeting. I did it on a Tuesday night out of spite, and something clicked, mostly because I already knew the ending so the early scenes read different. Two other members admitted the same thing happened to them but never wanted to say it. Now half the group swears by a second read and the other half says that is just sunk cost talking. So which is it, does rereading actually reveal something, or do we just get attached to a book we already spent 14 hours on?
