I finally messed up a book club debate so bad the host had to step in
It was about 6 months ago at Sarah's place in Portland, we were arguing over whether the main character in "The Vanishing Act" was meant to be a ghost or just a metaphor. I got so heated I accidentally knocked over her lamp and it shattered on the hardwood floor. Everyone went quiet and I turned bright red, like full tomato mode. Sarah just sighed and said "well, I guess that settles the debate for tonight" while sweeping up the glass. I offered to pay for it but she said no, just laughed it off. Still, I felt super awkward for the rest of the meeting and barely talked. Has anyone else ever caused a physical casualty during a book argument?

It's funny how a book can bring out this intense side in people... makes you wonder if we're all just looking for something real to argue about since everything else feels so disconnected these days. Running my own business taught me that people argue way harder about small stuff when they don't feel heard on the big stuff. Maybe that lamp taking one for the team was just the universe telling everyone to chill out.
