Caught part of a debate about annotation styles in the bookstore and it shifted my whole approach

I overheard someone saying they highlight only 3 lines per chapter max and it made me realize my books look like a toddler got loose with a marker, has anyone else found a limit that actually helps discussion?

Man, I gotta say that 3 lines a chapter thing sounds like a total buzzkill to me. I mark up everything that jumps out at me, sometimes whole paragraphs, because how else am I gonna remember why that part hit me later when I'm flipping back. If my book ends up looking like a rainbow threw up on it, that just means I was really in it and actually thinking about what I read.
