TIL my 'quick' flange weld fix on a 30-year-old boiler turned into a 3-hour ordeal

The gasket surface was so pitted I had to build it up with three passes of 7018 before I could even think about grinding it flat. Anyone have a better method for dealing with severe corrosion on old cast iron flanges?

Reminds me of the time my flight got canceled and I was stuck in an airport for 18 hours. Just that awful, sinking feeling when things go totally wrong. Makes you feel completely powerless. Honestly, sometimes just surviving a day like that feels like a win.
