Wheel truing by feel vs. by dial gauge, changed my whole routine last month

Used to true wheels with just a spoke wrench and my thumb on the rim. Worked fine for basic stuff, but customers kept coming back with wobbles after a few weeks. Picked up a dial gauge at a pawn shop in Boise for $30. Now I check every wheel after tensioning. Takes an extra 10 minutes per wheel but I haven't had a single return since. Anyone else make the jump to gauges or still trust the old hand method?
