A guy in Sacramento showed me his 30 year old Park Tool stand and I realized my bench setup is all wrong
Last week a retired shop owner named Ray let me poke around his garage in Sacramento. He had this beat up Park Tool stand from 1994, the kind with the single bolt clamp. I asked why he never upgraded. He said the new ones look nicer but the old clamp holds a seat tube without crushing it. He showed me his work order binder too, every repair written in pencil with torque specs added by hand. I've been using a cheap stand for 3 years and just crushing post after post. Now I'm hunting for an old one at swap meets.
