My coworker called my CD rip setup from 2003 a fire hazard, and now I'm second guessing everything
Last week my coworker swung by my desk in Chicago and pointed at the stack of old CD wallets and my burned mixtape drive I keep around for archiving, and flat out called it a fire hazard waiting to happen. I get that an old external burner gets warm after 40 discs in a row, but the thing has been running fine for two decades and the real risk was never the hardware, it was the scratched discs I was rescuing in the first place. Am I crazy for thinking keeping a working drive and a spindle of backup discs beats paying for cloud storage, or does everyone here actually think I should retire it?
