Went to an old barber shop in Denver last weekend
Saw this guy using a straight razor with no shaving cream, just hot towels and a strop. Reminded me of how my grandpa used to cut hair in his garage back in the 80s. Anyone else notice shops getting away from the old school stuff?

You saying there's something real about the skill and precision is exactly what I've been trying to tell people lol. That hot towel technique is actually a whole ritual that softens the beard better than any canned cream can. When you watch someone strop the blade between passes it's like they're in a flow state or something. Modern shops with their disposables and gel just feel rushed now compared to that old school focus. Makes you wonder how much of the experience we lost just trying to save 5 minutes.

Man, I gotta admit I used to think the old school stuff was just for show or nostalgia. But after seeing a guy work a straight razor with just hot towels and a strop, it COMPLETELY changed my mind. There's something real about that skill and precision that modern shops just don't have.
