Spent 8 months using the wrong clipper guard size, a kid's haircut exposed me

Honestly, I've been cutting hair for about 6 years now, mostly friends and family out of my garage in Toledo. I always thought my fade looked a little off, like the top was never even with the sides. Last Tuesday, a mom brought in her 7 year old for a summer cut and asked for a 2 on the sides. I grabbed my #2 guard, did the whole thing, and she looked at me weird. She said, "That looks like a 1, are you sure that's a two?" I checked my clipper and realized my guards were from two different kits and I'd been using a #1 guard labeled as a #2 the entire time. Every single cut I did since January was way shorter than what people asked for. Nobody complained once, which is wild. How many of you have used mismatched gear for way too long before catching it?
